The State Agrarian University of Moldova (SAUM) is the only higher agricultural education institution in the Republic of Moldova and the first higher education institution founded in Chisinau. SAUM has a history that began in April 9, 1933 when King Carol II of Romania promulgated the Law concerning the transformation of Agricultural Sciences Section of the University of Iași into the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences with its center in Chişinău.

The State Agrarian University of Moldova (UASM), the only university agricultural education institution in the Republic of Moldova, is a member of the Association of European Universities.
Throughout its academic existence, the State Agrarian University of Moldova has benefited from the contribution of several outstanding personalities in the field of education and agricultural science, educating, in turn, numerous valuable specialists who have contributed substantially to the formation and development of the national economy, of the social, political aspect and of the national cultural treasure.
Thus, UASM has trained over 55 thousand specialists within its faculties, including 2,211 with a master’s degree in agricultural, engineering and economic sciences, and about 1,000 specialists from 67 countries, who have proven themselves through outstanding results in production and research, in the country and abroad.
The integrated education, interactive methods, problems of situation, clinic cases and home medical services, medicine based on evidence, virtual programs, standardized patients, education at distance, TV medicine and others are being implemented.
The university education in first years is carried out in Romanian, Russian and English languages. Within the Francophone Branch (since 1998), that activates at the faculty of General Medicine, the education is developed in French.
The Medical Scientific Library plays an important role in the process of education and research in the University that assembles over 1 million of publications of books and other modern sources of information.
The University is connected to Internet since 1997; the University Center of Information “Infomedica” was established in 2002.
